Club trip to Mercer Botanical Gardens
By webmaster | April 16, 2009
A favorite place for all local gardeners is the Mercer Botanical Garden. Mercer was kind enough to give us a tour of the gardens this week.
- Club members visiting before meeting
- Club Hospitality Chair, Nancy Glover, oversees refreshements
- Mercer snake expert, Al Barr, talks to us about snakes
- Al Barr, Olwynne Gleason and Jeff Hielers talk to us before the tour
- 45+ Woodlands Garden Club members tour Mercer Botanical Gardens
- Member Mary Vacek gets a great photo of an unusual plant
- Club member Rina Hanel and Olwynne Gleason discuss an odd plant
- Club member, Patti Cooper asks Al Barr a question
- Wow!
- Club members relax and enjoy the beauty
We had a fantastic time at Mercer and learned so much. Did you know that all copperhead snakes have Hersey Kisses type marks on them? (see photo)
We also found out that 2 teaspoons of molasses in a gallon of water makes a good fertilizer and helps to keep the fire ants away. And when you buy your molasses buy the cheap stuff, it has more sulfur in it.
